2012 saw the introduction of a Services Academy at Aurora College.
This academy is part of a Ministry of Education initiative that aims to encourage students to stay engaged in learning by providing a motivating and disciplined programme, and to help students gain improved qualifications and assist in preparing them to move successfully into the workforce or further education and training.
Programme;
The Service Academy will offer around 20 students a twelve-month programme. Students will be expected to:

1.work towards and attain a minimum of NCEA Level 2 English and Mathematics as well as other credits from the National Qualifications Framework appropriate to their interests and career choices

2.participate in a range of motivating and challenging learning experiences provided in association with the New Zealand Defence Force including Youth Life Skills units.

3.participate in a two week induction course, a leadership course and advanced leadership course, bushcraft, a coast to coast course and other outdoor based activities.
