Waka Ama 2024 - Term 1
Kia ora koutou katoa
We are hoping to start waka ama training in Week 3 of Term 1 (12-16 February)
All training will be held after school between 4 and 6.45pm at Oreti River.
There will be a minimum of one training session per week for each student, with options for extra training for those students who have extra time.
Training will proceed if the water is not too rough, even if it is raining. Off water activities will be completed on rough water days including safety, equipment, strapping, rigging and derigging a waka, nutrition and hydration, theory and tikanga. Because waka ama is an all weather sport, students need appropriate attire including tights or thermals with shorts, thermal top, light waterproof jacket, warm hat, and a towel plus a change of clothes. Booties will be provided. Please advise if clothing/equipment is needed.
Contact details, emergency contact details and medical information are needed to ensure student safety and to meet planning and reporting requirements. These will be held securely and used to share correspondence or in cases of emergency.
Please fill out the attached form as soon as possible.
